Joe Heck Claims To Be Anti-Yucca…But Secretly Tries to Fund Nuke Waste Dump
Exposes True Feelings About Yucca Mountain
Las Vegas, NV – No, this is not a typo. This morning, the Las Vegas Sun reported that Rep. Joe Heck actually tried to secretly slip funding into an appropriations bill that could have allowed the process to move forward to make Nevada the nation’s nuclear dumping ground.
Yes. This is the same politician who claims to be against a nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain.
The House is voting this week on the Energy and Water Appropriations bill that allocates funds for Yucca, and instead of trying to kill the project, the Sun reports that “Heck would give $2.5 million to Nevada ‘to conduct appropriate activities pursuant’ to the 1982 act” — meaning it could be used to continue the licensing effort.
“Whether it’s calling Social Security a ‘pyramid scheme’ after claiming to support seniors or secretly trying to funnel money to open Yucca after claiming to be against the dump, Joe Heck is proving he can’t be honest with Nevada’s families,” said Zach Hudson, spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party. “With Nevada’s economy suffering from the worst economy since the Great Depression, Joe Heck should be focusing on job creation, not spending taxpayer dollars on opening Yucca Mountain or voting to end Medicare in order to continue taxpayer giveaways to big oil companies.”
