Berkley: In Heller’s Nevada, More Veterans Would Be on the Street

Berkley reacts to new $500k grant for NV’s homeless veterans that Dean Heller voted to kill

Las Vegas, NV –  Nevada Congresswoman Shelley Berkley issued the following statement after the Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded more than $500,000 to Nevada in new housing vouchers for homeless veterans. Unelected Senator Dean Heller voted to eliminate this program (H.R. 1) when he was in the House of Representatives earlier this year.

“After risking their lives in service to their country, it’s scary to think what will happen to the hundreds of homeless veterans if Dean Heller had his way.  The bottom line is this: in Dean Heller’s Nevada, more veterans would be on the street.  Today’s announcement highlights the clear choice Nevada voters have in this election between my record of standing up for veterans, seniors and families and Dean Heller’s votes to gut veterans’ assistance, kill Medicare and destroy jobs.”

The Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated $567,132 in funding for 100 new HUD-VASH housing vouchers for homeless veterans in Nevada.  The funding was provided to the Southern Nevada Regional Hospital in Las Vegas to administer the vouchers.
