Did you see the GOP debate last night? You didn’t need to. Last night, eight GOP presidential candidates debated each other at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California. As the candidates paid the required perpetual homage to the 40th president, the rest of us might take some time to reflect on just how far off the Reagan Ranch the Republican Party has gone.
From the headlines today, you should already know the candidates were falling all over themselves to toe the Tea Party line: Tax cuts for the wealthy will create millions of jobs. Social Security is a Ponzi scheme. “ObamaCare” must be scrapped and insurance companies given back the reins.
And then there was the border needs thousands of boots on the ground to assure our safety and security. The Border? The last time I looked at a map, I thought sure we had TWO borders, one at north and one at the south. The GOP candidates, however, all appeared to be fixated on ‘securing the border’ … but just the southern border. Why is that? Did the 9/11 terrorists infiltrate this country across that border? Hell no, some of them came in via Montreal. So then why? The answer is they’re all racists who despise anyone of hispanic decent and they’ll do anything possible to ensure there’s no way they can enter this country.
But here is the scary part: One of these Tea Party panderers will be the nominee and one step away from the presidency.
“It is a monstrous lie. It is a Ponzi scheme to tell our kids that are 25 or 30 years old today, you’re paying into a program that’s going to be there.” — Gov. Perry
“Obamacare is killing jobs. We know that from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.” — Rep. Michele Bachmann (Minn.)
“He only went along with the Libyan mission because the United Nations told him to.” — Former Sen. Rick Santorum (Pa.)
“The idea that we would put Americans’ economy in jeopardy based on scientific theory that’s not settled yet to me is just — is nonsense. I mean, it — I mean, and I told somebody, I said, just because you have a group of scientists that have stood up and said, here is the fact — Galileo got outvoted for a spell.” — Gov. Perry
“Obamacare took over one-sixth of the American economy… . If we fail to repeal Obamacare in 2012, it will be with us forever and it will be socialized medicine.” — Rep. Bachmann
“In our state, our plan covered 8 percent of the people, the uninsured. His plan is taking over 100 percent of the people.” — exGov. Romney
If he or she wins, and we lose the Senate, they’ll join up with Eric Cantor for total control of the government. The middle class? Abandoned. The EPA? Scrapped. Planned Parenthood? Defunded. Their agenda will pass faster than Mitt Romney can say “Corporations are People.”
The Republican presidential primary has heated up in the midst of a nation facing tough times and tough choices, We’re seeing a clear contrast between the core American values that have made our country great and the far-right ideology being embraced by Republican leaders which threatens to undo a century’s worth of progress. I can tell you this … no way … no how … am I going to let these people determine the direction of our country. I won’t stop fighting until the moment the polls close.
