Her vision for the Nevada State Board of Education is to make it a proactive voice and partner for Nevada’s public school students.  She will be a leader to:

  • Emphasize the link between our public schools and Nevada’s future economic development and growth and support programs to create the educated workforce Nevadans need for 21st century jobs and businesses.
  • Ensure there is an effective educator in every classroom so that our children can succeed.
  • Return career & trade courses that prepare Nevada students for the Nevada job market
  • Use successful, innovative methods that reach at-risk students.
  • Enrich the curriculum in subjects students need for future success, including core classes, creative arts & literature, STEM courses (science, technology, engineering, and math).
  • Streamline statewide education regulations and policies now in place and in the future.
  • Find more ways to help small & rural districts share expertise and resources.
  • Make sure school safety plans are updated, including prevention of bullying, school crime and violence, drugs, gangs, and weapons on campus.
  • Use all ideas to improve graduation rates and reduce numbers of students in remedial classes.
  • Urge the Legislature and the Governor to work in a bipartisan way to create a new, broad-based and stable tax structure to help fund quality public education for Nevada.
  • Increase parent, student and community communication, strengthen school-community partnerships and share the vision that successful public schools lead to a stronger, smarter, more productive Nevada for all who live here.
