Senate Activity

On Thursday, I was pleased that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle joined Senate Democrats in passing the Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act.

The Food and Drug Administration Safety and Innovation Act will ease shortages of life-saving medicines and ensure the FDA has the resources to approve new drugs and medical devices quickly and efficiently. Click here to watch a speech I gave on the Senate floor where I tell the story of a Las Vegas woman who was affected by shortages of her medication.

This week I also had the pleasure of meeting Nancy Muñoz, a small business owner from Nevada who was being honored as Nevada’s Small Business Person of the Year during National Small Business Week.  She was one of five Nevada small business leaders recognized by the Nevada Small Business Administration.

Ms. Muñoz understands the challenges of creating jobs for Nevadans, and I am pleased she is securing a bright future for her small business by taking advantage of opportunities made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and SBA lending programs.  I will continue to work to pass measures that enable Nevada small business owners to innovate and create jobs.

In my time in Congress, I have been a strong supporter of small businesses because of the vital role they play in the economy by spurring innovation, job creation, and competition.  In honor of Small Business Week, my office released a new business resource webpage and resources guides for women-owned businessesminority-owned businesses, and business owners and entrepreneursto help other Nevada small businesses take advantage of these opportunities.  I hope you find this information helpful.

As we approach Memorial Day, it is important we honor and remember every veteran of America’s Armed Forces.  Each year, I attend the Boulder City Memorial Day Ceremony in Nevada where I honor the sacrifices men, women, and their families make to our great nation.  On this Memorial Day, I hope you too will think of these brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines and thank them for their service.

Thank you for taking the time to read this email.  For more information on my work in the Senate or to contact me, please visit my website, reid.senate.gov, or connect with me on Twitter and Facebook.

Sincerely,

HARRY REID
U.S. Senator for Nevada
